PRODUCTION QUALITY

 PRODUCTION QUALITY

Whilst excellent results can be obtained with a home studio nowadays, we have a dedicated professional soundproof recording studio attached to the house, fully equipped for recording both musicians, bands and voice audio.  We use ProTools, a soundproof recording studio, professional-grade microphones and a rather impressive array of technical things and boxes with lots of buttons that I do not understand.  However, my partner Rud is both an audio engineer and music producer, so definitely knows what he is doing.

Please fell free to ask if you have any technical questions (I won’t know the answer, but I do know a man who will…)

SECTOR OR GENRE

I am experienced in regular narration, and also training course/powerpoint narration, e-learning projects, hypnosis and meditation scripts. Hypnosis/meditation in particular require very different handling from regular audio, and experience in the right rhythm, cadence and tone can make or break any such audio. My most common client projects are in:

Non-fiction
Business
Finance
E-Learning
Science
Travel
Personal Development
Romance
Science fiction

PROJECT DELIVERY

 PROJECT DELIVERY

Completed projects are normally delivered as downloadable files. Usually, we would place the files in our secure Dropbox server, and give you a download link to access them yourself.  All audio is always backed up locally.

The choice of audio file is entirely up to you. The default audio file is WAV, but completed work and test reads can also be delivered as AIFF, MP3 256 or in any combination of those formats. There is no extra charge for bouncing and delivering output files in more than one format.  There is an additional charge if you require a CD ready version of your audio (see below).

ACX PROJECTS

When an audiobook is to be supplied via ACX, Audible Inc protocols will apply throughout and delivery to ACX will be in the form of MP3 256.

If, in addition, you wish to receive a CD-ready version for concurrent or later publication, then a US$250 / £200 surcharge will apply to cover the additional editing required. Files will be supplied as WAVs via Dropbox download link.

STUDIO HIRE

The recording studio is available for hire, and suitable for voice recording, music or even bands.  You are welcome to hire the facilities for DIY audio narration if you wish.  For rates, please contact us and we will get back to you with a bespoke price, depending on your needs.

OFFSITE WORK (AT YOUR REQUIRED LOCATION)

There is no charge for attending a Client Designated Studio within a 30 miles radius, even over multiple sessions. However, attendance at a studio beyond this radius may attract a surcharge in respect of travel and accommodation expenses.  If you contact me with a specific query or proposal, I will happily supply a quotation.

Please note that at a Client Designated Studio, all technical aspects of the session, including delivery and post production, are the responsibility of the client.

MALE AUDIO

I do not provide male audio (obviously).  For the best male audio voice I know, I can thoroughly recommend James A Gillies.  he has a wealth of experience at the BBC, voiceover work and also audible and other audiobooks.  You can contact him via his website www.jamesagillies.com

PROOFREADING

proofreading

Audio work is by definition a human process.  If a machine could do it, no doubt it would be cheaper and totally accurate – and you would be using a machine instead.  In any human process, there will always be mistakes, and my job (and the producers) is to ensure there are as few as possible.  Mistakes are not the result of my poor performance, but arise from lack of clarity of information from the client, fatigue or overfamiliarity-induced word blindness.

I am only human, but so are authors and writers, and the results often show in some of the manuscripts I receive.  I am unable to make the proverbial purse from a sow’s ear, and can only read what I am given.  If you wish the work to be edited/tweaked for audio before recording, this will attract a separate (sensible) charge based on the amount of time required.

In order to detect and correct mistakes, I employ a professional editor to proof my work. She will listen to the audio against the text and attempt to spot any errors that have crept in.  If you think you might have need of an editor, a proofreader or a proofer (and she will be happy to explain the difference between these roles) I thoroughly recommend Ali Gillies, so please follow the link below to her website.
